You want to feel terrific about yourself, so what’s stopping you?

Yes, I know you want feelings of warmth to surge within when you’re thinking about who you are and what you can offer to others, right? Yet, when you’re looking in the mirror or thinking about who you are at your core…you may feel yuck washing all over you.

Feelings of self-hatred.team2
Feelings of self-disdain.
Feelings of self-sabatouge.

What gives?

You know you’re not all that bad.
Yet, deep down, you feel less than.

You feel less than average.
You feel less than normal.
You feel less than you know you could be.

Wouldn’t you love to feel terrific about yourself?

Feeling like you are good.
Feeling like you have something to contribute to the world around you.
Feeling like you have a special purpose?

Yes…feeling terrific about who you ARE.

But you’ll never feel terrific about yourself if you’re carrying this…

Baggage.

What kind? Lugging around resentment toward another person.

You can’t feel terrific about yourself if you feel poorly toward others.

Lugging around unforgiving attitudes toward your mom, your dad, your coworker, your best friend. Your professor, your pastor, your spouse, your boss….

Does lugging emotional baggage really drag you down THAT much?

Yes. So much that it will pull down the feelings you have about yourself.

Again, you can’t feel terrific about yourself if you feel poorly toward others.

So, how do you go about reversing those poor feelings – especially when some people are idiots, they’ve treated you like yesterday’s trash, and you hurt so deeply from the wounds?

You have ONE choice.

Become a perpetual forgiveness machine.

Like a machine – you crank out forgiveness each time someone inflicts pain into your life.
Like a machine – you return unconditional love for a back stabbing.
Like a machine – your responses soon become automattic.

Put your perpetual forgiving machine in place each morning and at the end of each day.

When you wake up and when you go to bed – run through your day and note who gave you grief, who spoke to you wrong, who betrayed you, who mistreated you…

Yes, you have permission to make a list.
List who did it, and list what they did.
Got it?
1.  List who.
2.  List what.

Then see yourself writing those items down on a piece of paper.

Now visualize yourself feeding that paper into your “perpetual forgiving machine” like feeding paper into a paper shredder. Turn it on, let the machine eat it up.

Last step is this – say a prayer for the people who were on your list. Ask God to help them, bless them, and grow them.

As you do, you are emptying the forgiving machine like you’d empty shredded paper out of the paper shredder. You will feel a washing away of hard feelings and little by little love will return.

Guess what else will?
Feeling terrific about yourself.

How?

Because when you extend forgiveness to people who don’t deserve it – you feel pretty terrific. And you’ll realize you are amazing. You are incredibly forgiving and you treat people who don’t deserve it with love and respect.

And as you do – you’ll start forgiving yourself… you’ll start loving and respecting who you are even though you don’t deserve it.

And yep, at this point you’re feeling pretty darn terrific about yourself!

Win win.

So everyday – go to your shredder… Your perpetual forgiveness machine.

Remember the steps:
List who.
List what.
Pray for them.

Do it as often as needed, even through out your day when you get hit with a hurt.

Forgiveness is more about freeing you from pain than it is about freeing the person who did you wrong….

…and freeing you to feel terrific about yourself!

Do it for you. Do it for them. But mostly – do it for you!

Scriptures to power up your machine:

2 Cor 2:5b: Now is the time to forgive this man and help him back on his feet. If all you do is pour on the guilt, you could very well drown him in it. My counsel now is to pour on the love. (The Message)

1 Cor 13:8b
So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love. Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have. Love doesn’t strut, Doesn’t have a swelled head, Doesn’t force itself on others, Isn’t always “me first,” Doesn’t fly off the handle, Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, Doesn’t revel when others grovel, Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end. (The Message)

Now…go turn on your “perpetual forgiving machine” and start shredding baby!

Like this? Tweet the love, you’re followers will thank you!

If you need a dose of hope, you'll find this little book I wrote an exceptional resources: Finding Your Smile in Hard Times. Get it on Amazon here. It will help you flip into peace mode when life is difficult.

Placing a demand on God for what you need may seem a little bossy or out of line, but take a look at the scriptures that say we can, in a sense, place demands on God.

Mt 6:11 says, “Give us this day our daily bread.” This is part of the Lord’s Prayer.

Notice that it isn’t a question. It says, “Give us.”

It doesn’t ask, “Oh God, we don’t have enough to eat, WILL YOU PLEASE GIVE US something to eat so we don’t starve?”

No, that’s not what it says. It’s a demand. Now don’t get all upset, or get your self in a tizzy.

It’s not arrogant in the sense that you are forcing God to do something for you. You’re not big enough to force God to do anything! But it’s like a little kid who walks into the kitchen at dinner time and says, “Mom, I’m starving. I want something to eat.”

Would you slap your kid upside the head and say, ONLY if you beg me. Drop to your knees and beg me.

No! I don’t think so.

Cooking and providing your kids meals is just something a mom does for her family. And kids come to understand it’s part of the family dynamic. The parents take care of them and provide food to eat. It’s out of relationship that the parents take care of their kids.

And it’s out of this family dynamic that kids end up being bold enough to ask and require.

Now don’t get stuck on that word require.

The Bible says we can ask and require our needs to be met, because Gods promises are backed by the honor of his name.

Psalm 34:10 AMP:

The young lions lack food and suffer hunger, but they who seek (inquire of and require) the Lord [by right of their need and on the authority of His Word], none of them shall lack any beneficial thing.

Hebrews 4:16:

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

So don’t be shy…expect and even “require” God to meet your needs today. And like a loving Father, he’ll do just that.

What the f____!!!  Today I’m going to tell you about the power of the “F” word..

So what is it?

It’s not what you think…

Relax! The word is “FAITH“.

Most people say that they don’t have faith, but that’s simply NOT true..

Everyone has faith. The question is, what do you have faith in?

A sick person has faith that they are sick, a healthy person too has faith…that he is healthy.

Recently I’ve tried a focusing hack to ramp up my faith quickly.

Try this:

  • Set a 1-minute timer on your phone 3 x’s a day.
  • Focus on a single need at hand, such as conquering debt or strengthening a relationship.
  • For one minute, think ONLY about scriptures and statements that declare you can have your need met. And say them out-loud.This will help you to focus your faith where you need it to go.
  • When the 1 minute is up, regardless of what you’re doing, stop.
  • Go for a walk, go back to work, read a book, and other activities unrelated to your task.
  • After that, start again a few hours later. Rinse and repeat 3x’s a day.

Using this trick, I was able to boost my faith for the need I had in just 1 day!

Try it, I think you’ll be surprised with the results 🙂

Here’s to more faith…

…and seeing you get your needs met!

If you want to more help, I’ve got an audio message that’s called “Faith and Solid Shields” that will get your faith pumping. You can download it right here

Don't confuse where your miracle tookHeart Check: Do you tweet and promote your church, pastor or spiritual leaders more than you promote Christ?

Ouch?!

Yeah, I know, I’m probably going to get some interesting comments from this post. That’s cool. Bring it on. Because I want you to know…

If your heart for God is in the right place, your heart for your church will stay in in the right place.

So, let’s ask again. Do you tweet and promote your church, pastor or spiritual leaders more than you promote Christ?

If your answer is yes, than you may be doing so to earn brownie points with your leaders. Let me assure you…you don’t need brownie points. You don’t even need brownie points with God!

Here’s part of the problem…

We’ve developed a church culture that is focused on complimenting, praising, word affirming our leaders more than we compliment, praise, and affirm God. And we do it to show them honor, but is it really about honoring ourselves?

Hmm. Heart check once more. (I’ve been checking mine too over the last few weeks.)

How would that work?

Let’s consider the natural law at work that says: You will reap what you sow. (Yes, that’s in the Bible.)

Knowing that if you honor others – you will reap honor, I can’t help but wonder if you honor others with the motive of receiving honor for yourself.

So yep, I’m being bold and a little in your face right now. Can you handle this?

Are you honoring your leaders for the right reasons?

You’re smart. You’ve figured out that in order to be a person of authority you need to honor the authorities over you. So what’s your secret, hidden motive? …you want to be an authority figure who’s honored?

Why am I asking? Because I see the tweets people entrenched in church culture and church life write. They talk more about the leaders over them than they do about the God who saved them.

Bam!

So here are a few thoughts from my heart to yours:

Don’t confuse your WHERE with your WHO.

  • You got saved at ______(insert name) Church, but it was God who saved you.
  • You’re marriage was restored at _________(insert name) Marriage Conference. But it was God who restored it.
  • You got fired up for God at __________’s camp or retreat, but it was the Holy Spirit that ignited that flame.
  • You may have been changed reading one of my books, but it was Jesus who did the job.

Don’t confuse where your miracle took place with WHO did it.

It’s all about Christ.

Yes, honor your church, pastor, and spiritual leaders with kudos, congrats, compliments, words of affirmations. But – honor Christ just as much – if not more. Cause, it’s really about HIM…He is the author and finisher of your faith.
