Isn’t it amazing when God stitches a theme into your day? You just know He’s trying to get a message to you when everywhere you turn, you bump into the same information. It blows my mind that he cares enough to keep trying over and over again to get it into our thick skulls!

Early this morning, a friend sent me a tiny audio snippet of a pastor from Pennsylvania sharing a devotional about the name of Jesus. Then when I went to read my Bible this morning, my eyes fell on scriptures talking about the name of Jesus. And when I opened up the book I was reading, guess what it was talking about on the very page I left off at? Yep – the name of Jesus. Then I turned on my iPod. Guess what the first song spoke about? You see where this is going, right? Yes, Jesus.

With this theme stitched into my day, I was thanking Jesus for what his name means to you and me. I began putting his name above everything I could think of. Take a moment and go with me here, I encourage you to read this out loud. We can do it together and it will stir your faith:

Jesus, the name above all names…

Jesus, the name above loneliness.

Jesus, the name above chest pain.

Jesus, the name above a bad habit.

Jesus, the name above a toxic relationship.

Jesus, the name above a horrible toothache.

Jesus, the name above stress.

Jesus, the name above childcare struggles.

Jesus, the name above thyroid issues.

Jesus, the name above no food in the fridge.

Jesus, the name above fears.

Jesus, the name above cancer.

Jesus, the name above relationship problems.

Jesus, the name above unpaid bills.

Jesus, the name above excess weight gain.

Jesus, the name above a broken air conditioning system.

Jesus, the name above disappointment.

Jesus, the name above horrible work environment.

Jesus, the name above a flat tire.

Jesus, the name above unpaid child support.

Jesus, the name above sin.

Jesus, the name above death.

Jesus, the name above PMS.

Jesus, the name above poor grades.

Jesus, the name above a tornado.

Jesus, the name above a stock market collapse.

Jesus, the name above a house fire.

Jesus, the name above failed tests.

Jesus, the name above betrayal of friends.

Jesus, the name above your dryer breaking down.

Jesus, the name above no gas in the car.

Jesus, the name above depression.

Jesus, the name above aggravation.

Jesus, the name above bitterness.

Jesus, the name above a cold or allergy.

Jesus, the name above divorce proceedings.

Jesus, the name above _________________(Your turn.)

Jesus, the name that everything on heaven and earth bows to.

Philippians 2:10 says, Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

“Jesus” – his name means savior. He saves you from all this above and more.

Lifeguards Have The Will to Save

I heard about this guy who is a lifeguard. He was asked if he’d saved many lives this summer, and he reported how many lives he had “saved.”

His friend said, “Your job must be exciting!”

The lifeguard said, “Nothing’s more exhilarating or terrifying or fulfilling than plunging into cold water, knowing someone’s life depends on me,” he said. “Nothing makes my heart pound like that. It’s the best feeling in the world, to burst through the waves with all my strength to pull people to safety, sometimes even against their will if they’re panicking. I wish I could do it all the time.”

Jesus, Your Personal Lifeguard

Know what? There is nothing more exciting to Jesus than to “save” you from your day or “save” you from your circumstances, and especially “save” you from your sin. He’s standing by. He’s a life preserver and will “save” you from everything nipping at your heels today.

So, what will you do with the Name of Jesus?

Put it above everything else!

Have you ever prayed for something that wasn’t God’s will?

Me too!

How do you know what’s appropriate to ask God for and what’s not?

Last Sunday morning I had the privilege of joining Latrica Willis, host of the Healing Touch Radio Broadcast for a live radio interview. I’ve got a little video vignette of it for you right here so you can see how conversation with God can help shape your prayers.

In this short video you learn how prayer shaping begins with thought shaping. We don’t always know what to pray for but God does.

If you’re wondering how to keep and hang on to your healing let me give you a few pointers because I don’t want you to lose out.

I had this great idea that when I turned 40, I would bite the bullet and compete in a triathlon. I workout every day. I’m fit. And I thought, “Shoot, I can handle this. I’m in just as good a shape as most 20 somethings.”

I love swimming, so that shouldn’t be a problem; I used to swim laps every day anyway. I love biking, that would be a cinch, the breeze coming at me at top speed is invigorating. But I hate running. That would be the booger!

I do run. In fact, I like the feeling I get after a run and that high that comes from pushing through the wall. But I still don’t like to run. Partly because I have always had knee problems.

The culprit: torn ligaments and tendons that never received the proper recovery time because I don’t like sitting still. And I pay for it dearly. It has always kept me from running comfortably for more than 2 miles at a time.

I still really wanted to complete this triathlon. So I started training. My best friend bought me an “Iron-woman” triathlon watch for Christmas so I could keep track of my times… I had the bike. I had the sports clothes and athletic shoes. Yes, I had all the gear, but I still didn’t have a good knee.

It wouldn’t cooperate. Most days I pushed through the pain but eventually I realized if I didn’t get my knee fixed I couldn’t compete.

The problem with getting my knee fixed was that surgery was required. And like I said, I can’t stand the thought of being down. I workout almost every day and to me the 6-week downtime while recovering sounded like a death sentence.

I love and require movement. I rarely sit still unless I am reading or working on my laptop or iPad. I couldn’t imagine being immobile for 6 weeks. So… I decided to quit training for the triathlon.

That didn’t fix my knee problem. Flash forward 4 years later, I’m now 44 (at the time of this writing), and still having pain in my knee. It slowed me down when doing my Insanity Workouts. Not fun. But one day I realized something.

Something every believer needs to realize.

We don’t have to live with pain. We can receive a healing and keep it.

I know. I know. You’re wondering how.

First you’ve got to know that God’s Word has the key to our healing.

Proverbs 4:20-22 says,

My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh. (AMP)(Bold letters mine for emphasis.)

This says God’s word will bring healing and health to your flesh. But you have to keep the word in the center of your heart.

Second, God’s Word point blank says that Jesus paid the price for your healing.

1 Peter 2:24 says, He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed. (NLT) (Bold letters mine for emphasis.)

With that knowledge under your belt…

Here’s the key to keeping your healing:

*Hold on to your healing by what you think and say.

Once you realize Christ grants you full healing, and you can believe for it, you have to fight for it. And fight you will because here’s what usually happens – you start to feel better but then in time you feel a symptom return. A little bit of pain comes back. Or the swelling returns. Or you see some other manifestation.

What’s happening here is that the enemy is trying to get you to focus on what you see and feel in the natural instead of focusing on the truth in the supernatural.

Why the Enemy Wants You to Speak Against Your Healing

He’s trying to get you to say the opposite of what God gave you. Satan knows what you speak is what will come to pass. That’s why he wants you to speak how you feel instead of speaking what you know. He knows the power of your words.

The truth of God’s Word is this – you have been given healing. So – you can’t, can’t, can’t begin to think like the enemy does. And you certainly can’t, can’t, can’t begin to speak like he does.

Resist the enemy by resisting the urge to say how you feel physically. Spin it around and say, “I know God healed me and I am going to feel it. I am getting better. My strength is returning. My sickness is leaving. I am healthy and whole.”

How to Lose Your Healing

Don’t change your confession of your words. This is where you can loose your healing. You have to hold on to your faith confession.

Hebrews 10:23 says: Let us hold firmly to the hope that we have confessed, because we can trust God to do what he promised.

See it? You’ve got to hold on to your confession of faith. Hold it, don’t let it go or slip away!

How To Hold On to Your Healing:

1. Take in the Word.

Let the word have its home in your heart. (Col 3:16)

The more at home the Word feels in you – the more comfortable you will be with thinking it. Which is good because thinking it prompts you to speak it.

2. Think the Word.

As a man thinks in his heart, so he is. (Proverbs 23:7)

If you think you’re healed, you will be healed.

3. Speak the Word.

Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)

If you start to feel symptoms come back speak to the devil and tell them to go away. Quote God’s word to him. Tell your symptoms to leave.

Resist Sickness Just Like You Resist Sin

It’s God’s will to heal you just as much as it is to forgive you of sin. It’s God’s will that you resist sickness, pain, and disease just like you resist sin.

If you start feeling pain, say: “Pain I resist you. I refuse to be in pain.” Pain must leave. If you start feeling sick, say: “Sickness I resist you. I refuse to be sick. Christ healed me of all sickness.”

This is resisting the devil and what he is trying to put back on you through unbelief and using what you say. But if you hold fast to your confession of faith – you will keep your healing.

How I Fight When Faced With Pain

Any time the devil tries to tempt me with a little pain in my knee, I go into fighting mode. I resist his attacks by thinking and saying out loud: “Knee you are healed. Pain, you have to go because Christ paid the price for my healing. My knee is strong and feels good.”

All that may sound silly to some who don’t believe. But guess what? It works. Scientific studies reveal that physical bodies respond to words.

I am happy to say since learning this – I don’t suffer with knee problems anymore.

Now, the question you are all dying to ask… “Will I compete in a triathlon?” The answer… No. But not because of a knee problem. I just don’t want to run!

So come on, if you want to keep your healing, hold onto your confession of faith. That’s how you hold on to healing!

Let’s find out why we don’t always receive all of God’s promises before we get to heaven and how to change that fast!

You’ve heard it before. God has a book full of promises. But how do you know for sure you can believe God’s promises are available to you right now? I’m talking right now – in the land of the living. Right now – before you get to heaven.

God wants you to have his best! You’ve probably heard Joel Osteen say it. Maybe you heard it from Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar, or Joseph Prince.  Maybe it was your pastor or an evangelist. Heard what? God wants you to be healthy, succeed, prosper and be blessed beyond measure. Really? Then how come maybe you aren’t?

Well, ok, maybe you are…to a degree. But not every believer is truly living in a place of health and abundance in every area of their lives, are they? So what gives?

Heaven on Earth

When I was a kid my mom and I used to play a game of sorts. We used to take turns describing what we thought heaven would be like. I would always start: “Streets of gold to for riding bike.” She’d say, “A huge kitchen with the most up to date appliances!” (That’s living in abundance!) I’d say, “We’ll have the biggest house we’ve ever seen. It will have lots of bedrooms, a big TV, and mega sized popcorn maker.” She chime in, “And the bathrooms will sparkle like diamonds.”

No more scraped knees. Everyone will be smiling and singing. And I always wondered if I’d get to play soccer 24/7 in heaven since it was my favorite sport as a kid. I imagined the nicest soccer goals you’d ever layer eyes on. A field greener than artificial turf and softer than a pillow-top mattress… Of course these aren’t things we are promised in heaven, but a kid can dream right?

So let’s stop imagining. What do you know about heaven according to the Bible?

  • There’s no sickness
  • There’s no lack
  • There’s no sadness
  • There’s no hurt
  • There is peace
  • There is love
  • There is prosperity in every realm – body, soul, mind, spirit, and environment. In other words – the works!

This is what God’s will is for heaven.

Now take a deep breath…

This is also what God’s will is for earth.

Then why don’t we have it all on earth?

Simple. We don’t always believe we can have it all on earth.

But Jesus said:

“May your will [God’s] be done on earth as it is in heaven”.  (Matthew 6:10 NLT) Brackets mine.

Did you catch that? Jesus said whatever is meant for us in heaven is meant for us on earth.

Good news: You can have it all. On earth!

That sealed the deal for me but in case you’re still not sure consider these scriptures:

  • “I will see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.” Psalm 27:13 (Then land of the living means here on earth.)
  • “I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).” John 10:10 AMP (Life meaning, this life, now.)
  • “Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.” Psalm 103:2, 3 (You have already been healed. Past tense.)
  • “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.” Ephesians 1:3 NLT (We are blessed now with what’s in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ NOW.)
  • “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in every way and [that your body] may keep well, even as [I know] your should keeps well and prospers.” 3 John 1:2 AMP (Prosperity in every area for your earthly body.)
  • “God is not a human being, and he will not lie. He is not human, and he does not change his mind. What he says he will do, he does. What he promises, he makes come true.” Numbers 23:19 NCV (Nuff Said!)
  • “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” Philipians 4:19 NLT (He’s obviously talking about our needs on earth because we won’t have any needs in heaven.)

That should be good enough right? But we are sometimes duped into thinking we will only receive the totality of these things when we get to heaven. What twists our thinking? How can we be moved from believing what God says to something else? Try these on for size:

4 Reasons You Don’t Always Receive God’s Promises Before You Get to Heaven:

  1. Disappointment from unanswered prayer (causing unbelief)
  2. Wrong teaching of the scriptures
  3. Religious ideas or traditions that contradict the truth of God’s Word (Mark 7:13 NCV says: “By your own rules, which you teach people, you are rejecting what God said. And you do many things like that.”)
  4. Wrong thoughts

The problem sometimes is that we believe God for salvation that redeems us from sin but we don’t believe God for salvation that redeems us from lack in all other areas.

It is not God’s will for us to lack in any area of our lives. When we do, it’s because we don’t believe God paid for us to be blessed in every way and we’re not walking in his truth. He says he came to give life and to give it more abundantly. Lack is the opposite of abundance. So if there is lack in any area of your life, sorry, that’s just not his will. And if that’s where you are, you’re in good company.

The disciples also struggled with faith in some areas yet lacked faith for other things.

You may know this story in Matthew 14:13-21. The disciples believed in healing. They had just done mighty miracles. But then they came up against a lack financially. The crowd of 5,000.

The crowd was hungry and the disciples had no food to give them. That spells lack my friends. They had faith for God’s blessing to heal physical bodies, but they lacked faith for God’s blessing to meet their financial need.

See, even the disciples struggled with faith. They had it for one area, but struggled to believe for another. How about you? Do you have faith for one area of your life, but not for another?

Do you find it easy to believe you can prosper in your relationships, but find it hard to believe you can prosper in your finances? Do you find it easy to believe for your salvation? But hard to believe for God’s blessings in any other area of your life? Do you find it easy to believe God forgives you of your sins right now but hard to believe he will heal you right now?

I want to encourage you to take the same faith you used to receive salvation and apply it to EVERY area of your life. When you do, you will start to walk in a state of blessing like you have never experienced before. Every area of your life will prosper. Body, soul, mind, spirit, relationships, finances, career, you name it…you’ll get the works!

Heaven on earth. It’s no game. It’s real for those who believe.

The Key to Knowing If It’s God’s Will to Heal on Earth
Not sure if it’s God’s will to heal you or someone your praying for? Let me give you the key to knowing  if God will heal you and others on this earth. Read on. But take your blinders off!

I’ve had that question myself. I’ve seen people very close to me die of terminal illness. Friends and family. And even though we prayed long and hard for those people to be healed, in the back of our minds, many of us were thinking, is it God’s will to heal them?

I once believed God could heal, but wasn’t always totally sure he would. Know what I mean? Of course I believed God could heal, I’d seen him do miracles for other people. But I also saw others who didn’t get their healing. And this is why I began to wonder if it was ALWAYS God’s will to heal.

How Doubt Crept In
When I didn’t see my loved ones healed of terminal illness I even tried to rectify it in my mind like this: “It’s God’s will to heal, but it may not occur until a person gets to heaven. So yes, they will be healed, it just may not happen here on earth.” Man, did I miss it. Let me tell you what I have learned.

Like Healing, the Car I Gave Away May Not Have Been Received
At 14 I started working at Dunkin Donuts. I saved every penny I earned after I tithed and in a year and a half I had enough money to buy a car. Not just any car. A brand spanking new car. Yes, this 15-year-old gal bought herself – a brand new car – all by herself. I was so excited. I worked so very hard for that car. I went to high school by day and worked nights and weekends so I could pay for my car myself.

When I went to college I met a missionary from the Bahamas who desperately needed a car. At that time I was able to buy another car so I gave the missionary my first car. Again, that was so exciting for me. I gave him something I worked my butt off for. Completely bought and paid, I handed him the keys and we had it shipped to the Bahamas.

Now, how do you think it would have made me feel had that missionary called me up and said: “The car you gave me is here. It’s sitting on the dock. I have the keys, but I just don’t think it’s your will for me to have it”? I’d probably think the guy was brain dead. And not very grateful for what I had given him. I could have said:

Fool, I gave you that car. It’s paid for. I worked hard for it. Take it. It’s yours.

Besides, do you really want to keep walking everywhere?

Because he couldn’t believe that I gave that car free and clear, he didn’t receive it and make it his. If there would have been even the slightest bit of doubt that car had not already been given to him, he wouldn’t have received it.

For some, this is what we do with healing. Jesus already paid for it. He gave us the keys. Healing is ours if we will believe it belongs to us. But it’s our choice if we want to walk away without receiving it.

Look how the Bible shows healing is ours for the taking:

 Isaiah 53:5

But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. NLT

1 Peter 2:24

Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross so we would stop living for sin and start living for what is right. And you are healed because of his wounds. NCV

Note the healing is past tense. The healing has already been paid for. So when we slip into unbelief asking whether or not it’s God’s will to heal on earth it must make God scratch his head. I can imagine him saying, if I’ve already given you something my son paid for, why would you not believe I gave it to you?

It all boils down to believing it’s yours without any shadow of doubt.

James 1:6, 7 NCV

But when you ask God, you must believe and not doubt. Anyone who doubts is like a wave in the sea, blown up and down by the wind. Such doubters are thinking two different things at the same time, and they cannot decide about anything they do. They should not think they will receive anything from the Lord.

The Key to Knowing if it’s God’s will to heal on this earth is thisbelieve what his word says.

And don’t doubt it. If you doubt, you won’t believe it’s his will and you won’t receive healing.

If you do believe what Jesus already worked so hard and paid for, then you can take it. That’s when it will become real. It’s God’s desire for you and your loved ones to be healed on this earth. Don’t leave healing sitting on the dock when he’s given you the keys. It’s God’s will for you and your loved ones to be healed before you get to heaven.
