What can you do to help during a tragedy, after a shooting, or act of terror? As our nation feels the pain again of senseless shootings and precious lives lost – it’s easy to feel like there’s nothing you can do. Oh, but I challenge you to think again! Let me show you how you can make a difference and we can use this crisis as an opportunity to bring help and hope.

crisis_pic_shootings

“The first and last task of a leader is to keep hope alive–the hope that we can finally find our way through to a better world–despite the day’s action, despite our own intertness and shallowness and wavering resolve.” -John W. Gardner, former secretary of health, education, and welfare.

Hope is the foundation of change. If we continue to hold hope high, and we help others do the same, there is always a chance to move forward and succeed.

In times of tragedy and crisis, know this:

1. Crisis holds the opportunity to be reborn.
2. Difficult times can discipline us to become stronger.
3. Conflict can actually renew our chances of building better relationships.

It’s not always easy to remember these things. As leaders, our job is to remind people of the possibilities and to help them succeed.

Get out there and spread hope. Take the lead. Be the change and make our world a better place. This crisis can and will be an opportunity for us to be reborn. But only if we take it.

Will you?

Edward Roy had a problem. Let me tell you his story so you can figure out what works when crap hits the fan, then find a solution to your problem. This will help you focus your attention on what you must do, what you ought to do, and what you really need to do to solve your problem…without losing your mind.

Warning: Don’t read this wile you’re eating… You’re welcome.

Edward Roy had problems with poop. He ran a lowly business —Jiff Johns of Pompano Beach, Florida. He had 500 portable toilets for rent. Band concerts, construction sites, church picnics, outdoor gatherings of any size could rent his pottys. But that wasn’t Ed’s problem.

When he started his business in 1982, lots of people in Florida needed a place to be alone when they were caught out in the open. Rentals were up. That was good and bad.

Now he had to figure out what to do with all the sewage…that was the problem.

Many an entrepreneur would have thrown his fists up in the air in exasperation and spent half his profit to have somebody haul off his product’s product. Not Ed. There had to be a better way.

In his search for a solution, he found a solar-heating process that turned sewage in to fertilizer. Then came a masterstroke of marketing. Instead of trying to sell technology directly to local Florida communities, his company expanded and began to operate three $3 million fertilizer plants itself.

With this new arrangement, the company would treat sewage for a fee and convert it into fertilizer, which was, in turn, sold for big hunk of profit. Roy literally turned his problem into a profit.

Gross eh? Not if you consider how Edward Roy turned the stench of his poop problem into a mountain of sweet smelling cash!

Life is difficult. Problems will plague you. But what if you refuse to let all that stuff get the best of you and churn your problem into your advantage like Roy did?

Here are 2 Questions will help you focus your attention on what you must do, what you ought to do, and what you really need to do to solve your problem:

1. Stop Thinking, “Can I?” and Start Thinking, “How Can I?”

At first glance, the questions Can I? and How can I? may appear to be very similar. But the reality is that they are worlds apart in terms of results.

Can I? is a question filled with hesitation and doubt. It’s a question that imposes limitations. If that is the question you regularly ask yourself, you’re undermining your efforts before you even begin. Stop!

How many people could have accomplished much in life but failed to try because they doubted and answered no to the question “Can I?”

When you ask yourself “How can I?” you give yourself a fighting chance to achieve something. The most common reason people don’t overcome the odds is that they don’t challenge themselves enough. They don’t test their limits. They don’t push their capacity enough. How can I? assumes there is a way. You just need to find it.

2. Stop Thinking One Door and Start Thinking many Doors

When it comes to growth, you don’t want to stake your future on one “door.” It may not open! It’s much better to consider many possibilities and look for multiple answers to all of your questions. Think in terms of options.

I made the mistake of thinking I would always speak and train people exclusively in the faith-based community. After serving as a pastor for over 23 years, I wanted to speak at churches and ministry conferences for the rest of my life. But my thinking was all wrong. My thinking was too small. Way too small.

When I stopped thinking one door and started thinking many doors, I found that there were many many more options available for me to add value to others by speaking and teaching all over the globe. By expanding my focus, I now not only speak at faith events and church venues, but too, I spend a lot of my time speaking, training, and coaching people in the business community focusing on leadership and personal growth. And I’m loving it!

As I have learned to think many doors and explore options, here is what I have learned that will help you too:

– There is more than one way to do something successfully.
– The odds of arriving anywhere increase with creativity and adaptability.
– Movement with intentionality creates possibilities.
– Failures and setbacks can be great tools for learning.
– Success is a result of continued action filled with continual adjustments.

The greatest challenge you will ever face is that of expanding your mind. But here’s the good news: If you can change your thinking, you can change your life. And yep, you can turn your poop problem into profits.

Oliver Wendell Holmes remarked, “Man’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.” If you want to churn your problems into solutions, ask yourself some different questions.

Take Action:
Name a problem you have______________________________.
Ask: How can I?
Then ask: What are my options?

Are you in pain? Whether you’re dealing with physical pain, emotional trauma, or the pain of disappointment, watch this short video and you’ll get 4 instant solutions you can use right away so you can be happy even when you’re in pain.

I’ll share how I broke through the excruciating pain I was in this week and what I did to get myself in a better mood. It will work for you too. Watch below.

I love your updates.

That’s so good. I will give it a try.

I know you’re tired of waiting for your big break. It’s been a long time coming. You’re wondering if you’ll ever be rewarded for your hard work and loyalty. If this is you, here’s what you can do while you’re waiting – so you don’t go crazy and lose your footing.

Have you heard the story of Joseph in the Bible where Pharaoh looks at him and says, look at all this land in Egypt…It’s all yours Joseph. Then he takes off his signet ring and puts it on Joseph’s hand (Genesis 41:41-46):

41And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.
42And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;
43And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.
44And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.

Wow.

Talk about reward. That ring was the platinum charge card of that day. It was the way the king stamped the invoices, the decrees, or anything else he wanted to validate with his royal seal.

Now that Joseph had the ring on his finger, Joseph was the guy in charge. He spoke for the king. His word carried the authority of Pharaoh. Joseph was the man.

In the blink of an eye Joseph experienced a promotion that was Cinderella-like.

But before promotion came, Joseph was in the pit of prison left alone. Forgotten.

He never saw the promotion coming.

Is this where you are at the moment?

Forgotten.
In a prison you can’t escape.
Feeling like your in a dungeon of despair.

Bankruptcy
Divorce
Betrayal
Dismissed from your job
Demoted
Lied about
Stricken with sickness
Numb with pain

Have I got your number?
What kind of a dungeon have you been living in?

I want you to know this so you can hang on with hope for your days ahead…

When God says the time is right – you will be free – and it will be sweet!!!

You are on the verge of promotion and you don’t even know it, because God doesn’t announce His appointments in advance.

So what do you do while you wait?

1. Believe His Promises.
While you’re still in the darkness of your dungeon, trust him to open the doors. I know you thought you heard footsteps outside the door, yet they never came for you. You almost gave up wondering if they will ever come and rescue you.

I’m letting you know – they will. God will send the right people at the right time to set you free.

So the next time you hear footsteps, believe they are coming for you. Believe they are about to unlock your prison doors and let you free.

The same God who allowed Joseph to live in the dungeon was the same God who brought him out. It just had to be the right time.

Even though today you have bruises and blows of disappointment… and unfulfilled dreams… doesn’t mean God has left your side.

At the right time he will get you out. Believe.

2. Know You’ll Be Stronger
When Joseph’s prison doors had flung wide open, he was different.

He had been refined and he came forth as gold. He had become a person of greater strength and stability. Deeper quality, nobler character. Talk about a self development chamber. This was character building 101.

God’s promises for Joseph are for you too. He’ll take what the enemy meant for evil and use it for your good.

When people forget you, and they will…
When people break their promises to you, and they will…
When you’re tired and tempted to give up, and you might…
Know you’re getting stronger.

While you’re waiting for your reward:
1. Believe his promises. He’s working on getting you out.
2. Know you’ll be stronger. You’re prison has benefits that the enemy can’t touch.

I’m pulling for ya. Hang in there. Your big break is on the way, if you’ll wait for it.

I’ve got an amazingly thoughtful assistant. Every year, Tanya sends me flowers on Bosses Day. Last year, I hung onto those flowers after they died. They were still beautiful even after they began to whither and decay.

My best friend, Kathy, is married to a guy who loves taking professional photos of flowers. Bob has hundreds and hundreds of the most striking flowers I’ve ever seen captured on film. I have some of his photographs of the stunning flowers God created on the walls of my home and office. (See the picture in this post, that’s his!)

Flowers are breathtaking! More so, than the model on the runway or the clothes on the hottest gal in Hollywood.

The reason flowers mean so much to me is because they remind me of how God takes care of me. Every day. Without fail.

Matthew 6:28-34 says, And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you.

Why do you have so little faith? So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek first the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

Why This Scripture Can Be Frustrating Rather Than Reassuring

I love this scripture because it brings me peace – on most days. But on some days it makes me a little uneasy. Why? Notice that it says God promises to meet our DAILY needs? That means we may not have what we need for the end of the month until the end of the month. That can cause some anxiety, are you with me?! Yet, if we settle ourselves down and drink in His peace we can be confident of this…

God gives us our daily bread. That means each day’s needs will be met. They may not always be met in advance but, don’t fret. Don’t flip out. Try to relax. And remember the flowers.

Why Does God Have Us Experience the “Sweat Factor?”

If you’re like me, we want our needs met in advance so we don’t experience the “sweat factor”. We want to avoid discomfort and the unknown.

Sometimes God has us sweat it out, going without things in advance so we learn to rely on him rather than what’s in the bank, pocket, pantry, or gas tank.

My husband and I have been through difficult and draining seasons. When I say draining, I’m talking, draining all the money out of our bank account kind of seasons. Been there too? And yes, there’ve been times we didn’t have the money to buy our kids groceries.

There were times I had to ration my make up and only “put on my face” when I knew I was going out that day. Days I didn’t have a few measly bucks to buy a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Times I couldn’t do lunch with a friend because I had no cash. Some of you can relate, I know.

Yet, I can honestly say, I have never gone without what I needed. Somehow, God made the food stretch or sent help from a friend, or hey, maybe when we went to bed, he multiplied the cereal in the box sitting under the counter! I wouldn’t put it past him. He’s done similar things for the prophet Elijah and the widow (I Kings 17:13).

God Doesn’t Promise Daily Needs Will Be Met in Advance

When my husband and I would get in a tough spot and it didn’t look like we’d even have gas for the week, I’d look at Ted and say , “Daily. God will meet our needs daily.” God didn’t say we’d always have it 2 or 3 days in advance, a week, or even sweeter – a month in advance. He said, he promised to meet our needs daily.

There were days when the cell phone bill was due. No money in the bank. Yet, God…

There were days when the electric bill was due. No money in the bank. Yet, God..

There were days a doctor visit was needed. No money in the bank. Yet, God…

What’s your story? I’m sure you can complete some of those sentences and add some of your own.

So if you’re in a spot like that, know this, it’s just a season and it will pass. Abundance is coming your way because God said it would. He said he came to give life and life abundantly. He said we would see his goodness in the land of the living. Right now though, he might just be providing for you daily. If so, hang in there. Daily provision is better than none. And you can know, it’s a sure thing; God will come through, even if it’s at midnight!

Next time you see a flower in the field, along the roadside, or in a bouquet on your desk, remember the flowers God dresses every morning. They look magnificent. They have everything they need and you do too. Even if it is just enough for today. It’s enough.

Remember the flowers!

And watch God remember you.

Here’s a free PRAYER ROCK-IT BOOSTER that will help you pray for you needs “From Day to Day”:

Picture This:

Your supplier is meeting your daily needs miraculously. God has resources you know nothing about, solutions outside your reality, and provisions outside your possibility. He hands you a worry-bazooka, you pull the trigger and walk away relieved.

Scripture This:

Psalm 31:19 NCV

…how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who trust in You.

Lamentations 3:22-23 NLT

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.

Psalm 138:3 NCV

In the day when I cried out, You answered me, and made me bold with strength in my soul.

Pray This:

God, you are great. Help me not to lose sight of your goodness. You’ve laid it up for me because I fear you. You’ve prepared your goodness for me because I trust in you. I am refreshed every day when I think about your mercies, which have no end. Your faithfulness overwhelms me. You are better to me than I am to myself. When I cry out, you answer me. Make me bold with strength in my soul so I can trust you to provide for each day’s needs. I will not be concerned because you said you’d provide. So, God, thank you.

Say This:

Anxiety fades as the memory of God’s goodness takes center stage. My anxiety-filled days stand no chance when I cling to God. I am seeing God’s provision even if it is one day at a time. As I trust and believe, I will receive.

You probably have people in your life that you could help by sharing this post with them. Please share it and tweet it so they can be encouraged. Let’s see God provide for them!
