I know you’re tired of waiting for your big break. It’s been a long time coming. You’re wondering if you’ll ever be rewarded for your hard work and loyalty. If this is you, here’s what you can do while you’re waiting – so you don’t go crazy and lose your footing.

Have you heard the story of Joseph in the Bible where Pharaoh looks at him and says, look at all this land in Egypt…It’s all yours Joseph. Then he takes off his signet ring and puts it on Joseph’s hand (Genesis 41:41-46):

41And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.
42And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;
43And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.
44And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.

Wow.

Talk about reward. That ring was the platinum charge card of that day. It was the way the king stamped the invoices, the decrees, or anything else he wanted to validate with his royal seal.

Now that Joseph had the ring on his finger, Joseph was the guy in charge. He spoke for the king. His word carried the authority of Pharaoh. Joseph was the man.

In the blink of an eye Joseph experienced a promotion that was Cinderella-like.

But before promotion came, Joseph was in the pit of prison left alone. Forgotten.

He never saw the promotion coming.

Is this where you are at the moment?

Forgotten.
In a prison you can’t escape.
Feeling like your in a dungeon of despair.

Bankruptcy
Divorce
Betrayal
Dismissed from your job
Demoted
Lied about
Stricken with sickness
Numb with pain

Have I got your number?
What kind of a dungeon have you been living in?

I want you to know this so you can hang on with hope for your days ahead…

When God says the time is right – you will be free – and it will be sweet!!!

You are on the verge of promotion and you don’t even know it, because God doesn’t announce His appointments in advance.

So what do you do while you wait?

1. Believe His Promises.
While you’re still in the darkness of your dungeon, trust him to open the doors. I know you thought you heard footsteps outside the door, yet they never came for you. You almost gave up wondering if they will ever come and rescue you.

I’m letting you know – they will. God will send the right people at the right time to set you free.

So the next time you hear footsteps, believe they are coming for you. Believe they are about to unlock your prison doors and let you free.

The same God who allowed Joseph to live in the dungeon was the same God who brought him out. It just had to be the right time.

Even though today you have bruises and blows of disappointment… and unfulfilled dreams… doesn’t mean God has left your side.

At the right time he will get you out. Believe.

2. Know You’ll Be Stronger
When Joseph’s prison doors had flung wide open, he was different.

He had been refined and he came forth as gold. He had become a person of greater strength and stability. Deeper quality, nobler character. Talk about a self development chamber. This was character building 101.

God’s promises for Joseph are for you too. He’ll take what the enemy meant for evil and use it for your good.

When people forget you, and they will…
When people break their promises to you, and they will…
When you’re tired and tempted to give up, and you might…
Know you’re getting stronger.

While you’re waiting for your reward:
1. Believe his promises. He’s working on getting you out.
2. Know you’ll be stronger. You’re prison has benefits that the enemy can’t touch.

I’m pulling for ya. Hang in there. Your big break is on the way, if you’ll wait for it.

One Thing That May Make Your Reward Instantly Vanish Before Your Eyes!

You give and you’re promised a reward, right? Not so fast! A reward is something you can opt-out of and not even know it. Listen to how it can unfold so you don’t do the same…

A rush of emotions poured over me. I saw a person make a huge donation to an organization that’s feeding hungry children and orphans all over the world.

I was blown away! Ecstatic might be a good word too. I was excited about how his gift was going to impact these kids. And too, I was excited for this individual knowing that a truck load of rewards were going to be dumped into his lap.

But then I gasped!

I wanted to run up to him and say, “STOP! Stop speaking. You’re blowing it!”

Blowing what?

His reward.

He just let it fly out the window. Because his mouth revealed what he gave.

Bummer.

Really big bummer.

Because this was a really BIG gift!

The Real Reason Behind the Giving

At first I thought, this is really cool that he has learned the joy of unbridled giving. But then when he opened his mouth and began to tell people what he had done it became very apparent why he had given. It was to be seen. It was to feed his ego. It was to inflate his self-esteem.

And guess what? He may have gained those things. But he lost the reward that would have come from above. What a thought, the mother-load sacrificed for a tiny slice of “Good job!” Those momentary feelings he received, the at-a-boy pat on his back…that’s it! That’s all he gets for his generosity. Sad. Because God had arranged more.

This is what the Bible says about it in Matthew 6:1-4 (NLT):

Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth; they have received all the reward they will ever get. But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”

The Acid Giving Test:

If you can pull it off in secret, most likely your motives for giving are good. But if you’re doing it to be seen – that’s not good.

If you want credit for it here, you’ll sacrifice credit for it there. Where? Heaven, where the rewards are much weightier.

Here’s what you can do to check yourself the next time you feel like giving:

• Are you giving to someone else so you can give to yourself (via self-esteem, accolades, recognition, etc.) If so, then you’re not giving to God.

• Have you ever talked about the money you gave away?

• Do you tell others about your good deeds?

• Have you ever Tweeted or Facebooked your status after helping someone out?

If so, enjoy. Cause that’s all the reward you’re gonna get. Bask in it while it lasts. Or, you can wait for the praise from God and have it forever!

How much of a reward do you want? Do you want a little here? Or do you want it forever there? Shut your trap so it doesn’t shut down your reward!

Be a top-secret giver and enjoy the rewards forever.

Prayer Booster: “God I want to give with a pure  heart and for the right reasons. The next time I give, let my motive be to bless others – not myself. Help me to squash the desire to make it in anyway about me. I choose to wait for my reward and to give with no strings attached. Amen.”

What say you? Have you ever lost your reward? How would the redo look if it were possible? How will you give next time? Leave your thoughts in the comment section.
